Murphy Paul to be sworn in as new Baton Rouge Police Chief

BATON ROUGE, LA. — Murphy Paul, recently selected by Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome to be Chief of the Baton Rouge Police Department, will be officially sworn in on Monday, January 8. The ceremony, which is open to the public, will be held at 2 p.m. in the Metro Council Chambers of City Hall.

Paul was one of seven candidates publically interviewed by Mayor-President Broome’s chief selection review committee. He subsequently made the final round of interviews and was ultimately selected to lead the capital city’s police force. Paul, a native of New Orleans, holds a degree in criminal justice from Loyola University. He joined the Louisiana State Police in 1994 and became a lieutenant colonel, where he most recently served as the deputy superintendent of the Bureau of Investigation. During his years of service with LSP, he was assigned to narcotics, internal affairs, detectives, criminal intelligence and patrol.
