City-Parish Offices to Remain Closed Thursday (1/18/2018)

BATON ROUGE, LA. — January 17, 2018 — Today, Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome announced that City-Parish government offices will remain closed Thursday, January 18.

“With Interstate-10 remaining closed to traffic through tonight, hazardous driving conditions on some of our bridges and surface streets, and tonight’s temperatures forecast in the teens, we are closing City-Parish government offices tomorrow," said Mayor Broome. "We continue to advise citizens to stay off of roads unless absolutely necessary.”

Additionally, Thursday’s residential garbage and recycling collection will be suspended. Extended hours for residential garbage services will be offered on Saturday, January 20 and Monday, January 22 to accommodate customers who’s service days were cancelled due to weather conditions.

Mayor Broome urges residents to stay safe and warm as Baton Rouge braces for another night of below freezing temperatures. On Tuesday, Mayor Broome activated the Crisis Action Team at the Mayor’s Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Preparedness, with crews monitoring weather and road conditions around the clock. Crews have been working to distribute de-icing products on roads, bridges and airport runways.
