Reading Friend Resource Center

My Brother’s Keeper Baton Rouge (MBK-BR) Reads is a key initiative driven by the national MBK Program in which the Mayor’s Office leverages the power of volunteers to close the gap and ensure all children read on grade level by third grade, in particular boys and young men of color (BMOC). MBK-Reads program has partnered with Volunteers in Public Schools (VIPS), Capital Area United Way (CAUW), and EBR Schools to provide individualized reading assistance for Pre-K through second grade students who read below grade level during school, in barbershops, after school programs, and at home with parents or family members. Volunteers also support drives to acquire book donations for every child in MBK-BR target areas.

This volunteer-based literacy initiative is designed to provide struggling readers with more opportunities to read in partnership with Volunteers in Public Schools (VIPS). Everybody Reads Program to help improve student reading levels and ultimately increasing their chances of long-term educational success.
