City-Parish Planning Commission

Our mission is to develop, maintain and implement a master plan for the harmonious development and growth of the Parish of East Baton Rouge that best promotes the health, safety, morals, order, convenience, prosperity and general welfare of the community.

The Planning Commission of the City of Baton Rouge and Parish of East Baton Rouge, Louisiana was established in 1949, as a part of one of the country’s earliest combined city and parish governing units. The City-Parish Planning Commission, a governmental agency is directed by state law and the Metropolitan Charter to guide the physical growth of Baton Rouge and East Baton Rouge Parish with comprehensive planning and land use controls.


Planning in the News

On Thursday, February 14th the Planning Commission, BREC and, DPW held a kick-off meeting with the National Park Service (NPS) to develop a work plan for the Dawson Creek Greenway Trail Project

  On Monday, May 13th the American League of Bicyclists announced that the bronze-level ”Bicycle Friendly Community” designation that had previously been awarded to Baton Rouge in 2009 has now been extended until 2017. For more information please visit our Bike and Pedestrian Initiative page.

Please be advised that on May 16, 2012, the Metropolitan Council approved Ordinance 15310 This document is in PDF format.  Download the free viewer from www.adobe.com that requires all land development applications within the Zachary Community School District to be submitted to the Zachary Planning and Zoning Commission within five (5) days of submission of the plans to the East Baton Rouge Parish Planning and Zoning Commission

Based upon Ordinance 15310, the Zachary Planning and Zoning Commission has forty-five (45) days to provide us with a recommendation/comments. If you have  questions or require additional information, then please contact our office.
