Options Foundation, Inc.

Summary of Organization

Options Foundation, Inc. (OFI) is an experienced non-profit LA agency with IRS recognition under section 501c3 status. It is operated under a governing body and became LANO certified three years ago. We currently have three (3) housing programs located in Baton Rouge/Baker Region II area and one (1) in Donaldsonville.

OFI was founded 17 years ago to provide housing and services to the mentally ill and those with co-occurring disorders. Its founder, Christine Nichols and a group of social service professionals created OFI to fill the need for quality housing and community access and services for the mentally ill after discovering rehabilitation of this population didnít improve unless they were in safe housing. With housing she included social services needed to ensure all persons who entered our programs would have the opportunity to achieve their optimum levels of success and quality of life. She was also one of the founders of the Homeless Coalition in Baton Rouge..

Our primary mission is to be committed to being the premier provider of housing for mentally ill adults in the communities we serve. Our commitment is to provide these services in an atmosphere of respect, compassion and dignity, with the goal of empowering individuals to meet their fullest potential in an efficient and resourceful manner. We have remained committed to this mission and in doing so we have become the organization our community counts on to provide this type of housing.

We have worked with the State of Louisiana for over 17 years in providing services to mentally ill and successfully have taken more than 100 people out of the La State Hospital and successfully entered them into the community and accomplished integrating those who had years in state hospital stays. Due to the success of our programs, we were awarded the previous contract for the Group Home with an array of services for the Severely/ Persistently Mentally Ill Adult Population of Region 2 and the current Group Home for the Severely/Persistently Mentally Ill (S/PMI) Adult Population of Region 2 to continue the program.
