The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center (Center) was erected in 1978. Mrs. Pearl George was Councilwoman. The center’s primary goals were reaching out to area citizens, while providing useful services and resources that would allow the community to grow and prosper.

The Center is still on the move, providing opportunities for personal, academic, professional and spiritual growth for the citizens in the City of Baton Rouge. We are a thriving organization who cares and treats our community with dignity and respect. With many, adjustments the center has changed from 1978 to 2003. The center presently offers a variety of services through various agencies (See Services).

The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center is proud to serve its community and to be there whenever we can be of service. If the Center can be of service please do not hesitate to give us a call.

Mission Statement

To serve the public in multifaceted ways such as after-school tutorials, summer day camps, safety/self-defense classes, informational sessions, senior programs, social service programs and medical services.

The center offers an array of services for households.  They include medical facilities, senior citizens programs, public assistance, two community development corporations and a library.

The center is open Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

What type of programs and activities do you provide for Senior Citizens?

Seniors are welcome to visit our facility to enjoy lunch Monday-Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  During the specified times other activities will be implemented (ex. tax services, bingo, computer activities and arts and crafts.)

What kind of medical facilities do you offer?

The center houses medical facilities for infants, children, adults and senior citizens.  We also offer WIC assistance and dentistry services.

What are the hours for the medical facility?

The medical office is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.; Wednesday's from 9:00 a.m. - 6:30 p.m.  And the 1st and 3rd Saturday's from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

What are the hours of the Eden Park Branch Library?

The library is open Monday - Thursday from 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. and Sundays from 2:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
