|Under the direction of an employee of a higher classification, performs responsible administrative and supervisory work in the area of coordination of the 95+ node Personal Computer Local Area Network (PC LAN) computer system. Work involves initial selection and updating of hardware; selection of compatible, interfacing software; coordination of services; and the supervision of technical staff of a very large department (e.g. City Court). Work also involves the use of independent judgment and is reviewed through personal conferences and for results obtained. Performs other work as requested.|
|ESSENTIAL WORK TASKS|
|Coordinates the use of the PC LAN hardware and interfacing software; selects equipment and appropriate programs.
Troubleshoots and repairs system problems; provides training for user department personnel in the utilization of the PC LAN system.
Plans, directs, trains, and evaluates technical support staff.
Performs total system data backups on a daily basis; runs and monitors anti-virus software; performs mock restores of data.
Reviews and presents LAN system policies for approval.
Prepares and submits divisional budget; makes purchase recommendations.|
|KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES|
|Knowledge of structured techniques of PC network management.
Knowledge of computer hardware and software.
Knowledge of computer languages.
Knowledge of computer system design and analysis.
Ability to write computer programs in the necessary language.

|EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE|
|Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, and two years of experience in local and wide area network administration.|
|Any equivalent combination of education and experience.|
