Accreditation Analyst

Police Department
Under the general direction of a supervisor, performs highly responsible complex and specialized work in planning, coordinating and managing the implementation, maintenance and adherence to professional standards for municipal agencies as established by CALEA (Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, POST (Peace Officer Standards and Training), legal mandates and best practices in government management. Supervision may be exercised over clerical personnel. Work is performed with considerable independence and is evaluated through conferences, reports and results obtained. Performs other work as requested.
Compiles and maintains all proofs of compliance with the law enforcement accreditation process; responsible for development, maintenance and updating of multi-year departmental strategic plan. Prepares reports of department's continued compliance with CALEA standards; arranges and coordinates annual mock review and tri-annual on-site review of the department's compliance with CALEA standards. Trains police department employees on all new and revised policies; conducts employee orientation training regarding professional standards. Prepares and/or reviews all new and revised policies to ensure compliance with federal and state law, municipal ordinances and CALEA standards; coordinates with department's legal staff for proofing of policies for adherence with all applicable laws. Acts as a liaison between police administration, other department employees and outside agencies in all accreditation efforts; agency representative for law enforcement accreditation and practices. Confers with crime analysis and crime suppression functions to meet strategic goals regarding identifying existing or evolving crime patterns; identifies long-range problem areas for development and implementation of programs to effectively reduce crime problems.
Knowledge and understanding of CALEA standards and the accreditation process. Knowledge of modern law enforcement principles, procedures, techniques and equipment. Knowledge of business English used to prepare reports. Skill in the operation of modern office equipment and in the use of standard computer applications. Ability to learn and apply technical terminology and information specifically related to police work. Ability to effectively and discreetly handle confidential information. Ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, other employees, and the public. Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions as well as the ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to apply good work habits such as punctuality, reliability, preciseness, and dependability in order to effectively complete assigned tasks and contribute to the smooth operation of the department and division.
Bachelor's degree in police sciences, law enforcement, criminal justice, public administration, or a related field and two years of accreditation and/or compliance experience in law enforcement, governmental, medical or an educational field.
Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must have a valid Louisiana driver's license at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment in this classification.
Availability to travel frequently.
