|Under the direction of a technical or administrative supervisor, performs highly technical work reviewing, establishing, and enforcing standards for the enterprise database environment. Incumbent is responsible for all open systems-based servers and applications including Windows, Unix, SQL, and Oracle. Work also involves responsibility for all web servers, file and print servers domain controllers and backup systems. Work also includes overseeing a staff of System Analysts and web personnel to provide a robust and highly available infrastructure necessary to support the city's growing application and data needs. Work involves responsibility to ensure successful resolution of any server related problems and for successfully completing all application-based projects. The incumbent also coordinates activities with all City-Parish departments and Information Services to meet overall objectives. Employees of this class are required to work in the Information Services Department. Performs other work as requested.|
|ESSENTIAL WORK TASKS|
|Configures and monitors the city/parish's multi-segmented Cisco PIX firewall device.
Configures and manages large-scale multi-agency Windows active directory network and configures connectivity to other agencies that have their own Windows network.
Configures, manages, and monitors both SQL Server and Oracle databases for city-parish or for vendor development.
Configures, manages, and monitors the City-Parish multi-agency Microsoft exchange e-mail system and ensures connectivity with other agencies that have their own e-mail system.
Configures, manages, and monitors City-Parish multi-site, multi-agency Web Server.
Manages and program projects that present or accept data from the internet using Active Server Pages.
Configures, manages, and monitors Linux OS servers.
Supervises and reviews the preparation of documentation, the development of procedures, and the training of personnel for complex, large-scale multi-agency computer systems.
Evaluates new software and hardware and recommends solutions of departmental computer needs to supervisors of City-Parish.|
|KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES|
|Knowledge of Windows 2000 Active Directory.
Knowledge of Microsoft Exchange.
Knowledge of Oracle database server.
Knowledge of Microsoft SQL database server.
Knowledge of Microsoft Internet Information Server.
Knowledge of Linux Red Hat Operating System.
Knowledge of Cisco PIX security device.
Knowledge of Active Server Page programmer.
Ability to configure Active Directory to communicate with other Active Directory forests.
Ability to configure Microsoft Exchange to ensure communication with other Exchange servers or organizations.
Ability to apply good work habits such as punctuality, reliability, preciseness, and dependability in order to effectively complete assigned tasks and contribute to the smooth operation of the department and division.|
|EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE|
|Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, supplemented by four years experience in designing, implementing and maintaining enterprise level networks composed of Windows and Microsoft exchange servers, including one year experience in a professional supervisory capacity.|
