|Under the direction of the Prison Health Care Manager, performs responsible supervisory work in directing the Medical Records Unit of the Parish Prison Medical Services Division. Work involves supervising and evaluating the maintenance, control, and storage of all medical, dental, and mental health records in accordance with established procedures and/or standards. Work is reviewed through conferences, written reports, and for results obtained. Performs other work as requested.|
|ESSENTIAL WORK TASKS|
|Supervises medical records staff engaged in processing, maintaining, controlling, and storing medical records.
Ensures medical records are complete, accurate, and processed in accordance with established procedures and/or standards.
Prepares and maintains various statistical data, records, and reports.
Searches records and files for data where judgment and discrimination are required in selecting or abstracting material.
Process release of information requests assuring presence of proper authorization.
Work closely with PHCM on projects and development of policy and procedures.
Interview and recommend hiring of employees.
|KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES|
|Knowledge of all applicable procedures and/or standards regarding the maintenance and storage of medical records.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of medical records management and of medical legal aspects of medical records.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Knowledge of modern office practices.
Skill in the operation of modern office equipment such as telephones, typewriters, calculator, copier, microfilm, printer, computer terminal, and related peripherals.
Ability to delegate, supervise, train, and evaluate the work of subordinates.
Ability to communicate clearly, orally, and in writing.
Ability to maintain files and keep records up-to-date.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with medical staff, supervisors, and the public.
Ability to apply good work habits such as punctuality, reliability, preciseness, and dependability in order to effectively complete assigned tasks and contribute to the smooth operation of the department and division.|
|EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE|
|Bachelor's degree in medical record administration, or graduation from the American Medical Records Association as an Accredited Record Technician, and two years of experience maintaining medical records. |
|Any equivalent combination of education and experience.|
|Must have a valid Louisiana driver's license at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment in this classification.|
|OTHER JOB ASPECTS|
|For security purposes, all applicants/employees of EMS-Prison Medical Services must obtain and maintain security clearance with the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office throughout employment in this classification.
