| Deputy Clerk of City Court | | | | JOB CODE: | 110440 | | | | PAY GRADE: | 1150 | | | | SALARY RANGE: | $28,646 - $39,653 | | | | LOCATION OF WORK | | City Court | | | | GENERAL DESCRIPTION | | Under the general direction of a departmental supervisor, performs highly responsible work of clerical and/or fiscal nature and performs supervisory duties over employees providing clerical, fiscal, office and courtroom services for City Court. Work involves responsibility for the preparation of court dockets, recording court proceedings and preparation of court orders. Work may also involve safeguarding money received and collected by fiscal employees of the Court. Employees of this classification exercise independent judgment in the performance of assigned duties within prescribed laws, procedures and policies. Performs other work as requested. | | | | ESSENTIAL WORK TASKS | | Prepares court dockets by assigning court dates; obtains records prior to court and arranges in order of dockets; schedules appearance of incarcerated defendants.
Reviews and certifies official documents received and distributed by the Clerk of Court's office.
Makes a verbatim record of court proceedings on PC based digital recording system; arranges for the production of and prepares written transcripts; prepares case records to be lodged with the Appellate Court; catalogues CD tapes, recordings, and log notes and maintains their storage.
Prepares fiscal statements and statistical reports; prepares and types judgments, transcripts, orders, bench warrants, subpoenas and other court ordered actions.
Supervises subordinate clerical and fiscal personnel and instructs them on changes in policy and procedures; assists in preparing guidelines for proper procedures to be used.
Provides assistance to court personnel, attorneys, Judges, outside agencies, and the public regarding court cases and dispositions.
Makes minute notations of dispositions.
Interviews prospective employees, makes recommendations for appointments, supervises, evaluates, trains, and disciplines employees. | | | | | KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES | | Knowledge of office practices, procedures and equipment.
Knowledge of court procedures, laws, regulations and orders pertinent to City Court.
Knowledge of the legal format and terminology required in the preparation of court transcripts.

Ability to keep complex records and prepare periodic reports.
Ability to assign and supervise the work of a clerical staff.
Ability to make responsible decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures.
