|Under the administrative direction of the Program Administrator - Head Start, the Practice Based Coach is responsible for providing high-quality coaching, guided reflection, and training and technical assistance to Head Start and Early Head Start teachers on best practices related to early learning and supporting school readiness and the social-emotional development of young children in compliance with Head Start Program Performance Standards. Performs other work as requested.|
|ESSENTIAL WORK TASKS|
|Contributes to providing quality service in accordance with skills and training.
Maintains awareness of trends and best practices, and is proactive in continually acquiring knowledge in fields related to the development of young children and their education.
Participates in early childhood education meetings and on committees as required and appropriate.
Promotes a unified team-oriented atmosphere in all communications and actions; always professional in appearance and demeanor.
Documents classroom and teacher observations and individual coaching plans.
Coordinates on-site work schedules, classroom observations, and training with center supervisors and teachers.
Provides constructive feedback and support to teaching staff for learning and growth; which may include activities, reading materials, or other resources as needed to guide learning.|
|KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES|
|Knowledge of current trends and practices in early childhood education.
Knowledge of reflective practices and additional strategies to promote positive outcomes for the teaching staff and the children they influence.
Knowledge of screening and assessment tools for preschool children to affect growth outcomes.
Skill in training new teaching staff and maintain support as needed.
Skill in planning and presenting small group workshops on relevant child development topics based on program monitoring outcomes.
Ability to develop and maintain positive, supportive relationships with child development staff.
Ability to assess teacher progress and document training events.
Ability to develop individual coaching plans, with specific goals and areas for growth which are based on classroom and teacher observations.
Ability to promote best practices in early childhood development based on Head Start Program Performance Standards, Infant/Toddler Environment Rating Scales, and Louisiana Birth to Five Standards, the Frog Street curriculum, and other prescribed curricula used by the Head Start program.
Ability to apply good work habits such as punctuality, reliability, preciseness, and dependability in order to effectively complete assigned tasks and contribute to the smooth operation of the department and division.|
|EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE|
|Associate's degree or higher in early childhood education, one year of experience in teaching preschool children, and two years of experience in the supervision of a moderate-sized staff.|
|Associate's degree or higher in a field related to early childhood education plus two years of experience in teaching preschool children; and two years of experience in the supervision of a moderate-sized staff.|
|Classroom Assessment Scoring System Observer Certification.|
|OTHER JOB ASPECTS|
|Must be able to bend, stoop, and lift 50 pounds. Position(s) in this classification may require typing or other computer software skills.|
