|Under the direction of the Chief Architect, performs basic architectural technical support duties and is considered to be in training. Work involves assisting a professional architect with the evaluation and preparation of architectural plans, specifications, contracts and reports for capital construction projects. Employees work closely with architects, contractors, engineers and consultants and work in cooperation with other City-Parish departments and outside agencies. Work is reviewed through reports and results obtained. Performs other work as requested.|
|ESSENTIAL WORK TASKS|
|Assists a professional architect with the evaluation and preparation of architectural plans, specifications, contracts and reports for capital construction projects.
Prepares and reviews estimates, and drafts and reviews specifications relating to projects under development.
Conducts field measurements of existing City buildings and other construction sites for project preparation.
Analyzes data and prepares reports and correspondence related to architectural activities.
Attends bid openings, participates in inspections, and records results.
Inspects construction work in progress to ensure compliance with specifications, approves quality of materials and work, and advises construction personnel.
Prepares miscellaneous materials such as charts, illustrations, graphs and architectural drawings.
Responds to public inquires regarding architectural activities.|
|KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES|
|Knowledge of the principles and practices of architecture.
Knowledge of the codes, regulations, and ordinances governing installation and construction, alteration, and repair of residential and commercial improvements.
Knowledge of modern developments, current literature and sources of information regarding professional architecture.
Skill in the use of a variety of computers, and computer aided design and drafting software.
Ability to interpret and understand construction specifications.
Ability to calculate complex cost estimates.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, architects, engineers and the public.
Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing, to groups and individuals.
Ability to apply good work habits such as punctuality, reliability, preciseness, and dependability in order to effectively complete assigned tasks and contribute to the smooth operation of the department and division.|
|EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE|
|Bachelor's degree in architecture (must be from a National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) accredited program).|
|Any equivalent combination of education and experience.|
|Position(s) of this classification may require a valid Louisiana driver's license. If license is required, must be maintained throughout employment in this position.|
|OTHER JOB ASPECTS|
|Must be enrolled in the Architecture Intern Development Program within six months from date of appointment, unless previously completed.|
