| The Operations Team at EMS
is responsible for the day to day activities that constitute a true EMS system. Tommy
Loyacono, Chief of Operations, four shift supervisors and four assistant supervisors,
ensure the safety and well being of all patients requiring emergency transport in East
Baton Rouge Parish.
EMS Field Operations consists of seven transport units operated from seven substations
around the parish (county). These seven units are the primary response units that operate
twenty-four hours a day. Two power units operate during peak call hours for 12 hour shifts
to help with the call volume. EMS units are staffed with a minimum of two EMT-Paramedics
who work rotating twelve hour shifts. Primary units have shift change at 7:00 am and 7:00
PM. The power shifts work non-rotation shifts that are set at 10:00am to 10:00pm and
12:00pm to 12:00am. Crews on the primary units are rotated through each station in the
parish and switch between day and night shifts every month.
There is a Field Supervisor and an Assistant Supervisor assigned to each
shift. The Supervisors are responsible for all daily operations of the shift and work
twelve hour shifts. The Supervisors are part of the administrative staff and are also
available to respond to calls in ALS equipped suburbans.
