Donald Dewayne White named Chief of Police for the Baton Rouge Police Department on May 31, 2011.
Dewayne White was a decorated 21-year veteran of the Louisiana State Police. He was
Command Inspector of the Joint Emergency Services Training Complex, overseeing the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team, the Emergency Operations Center,
training and Capital and physical security. He managed two State Police and two Department of Public Safety Captains, 125 commissioned and non-commissioned
personnel and 160 inmates at the State Police Complex.
Dewayne White previously served as Commander of the Emergency Services Unit for Transportation and Environmental Safety with statewide management and supervisory responsibilities. During his tenure at State Police, he received a
Meritorious Service Award, two Emergency Services Awards, three Professional Excellence Awards, and a Unit Citation. In 2000, he was named
"Trooper of the Year" by the Louisiana State Troopers Association.
Prior to joining Louisiana State State Police, Dewayne White served 6½ years with the Baton Rouge Police
Department in the Uniform Patrol, Traffic and Motorcycle Divisions.
