Welcome to the official website for the City-Parish ADA Task Force.

MISSION | PURPOSE | GUIDING PRINCIPLES

 

 

The purpose of the Task Force is to fully integrate individuals with disabilities into all aspects of community life. The Task Force will also advise the Mayor-President and Metropolitan Council on state and federal issues that impact upon the lives of our citizens with disabilities. The Task Force will be a policy advisory board and a direct services committee.

It is my desire to have a representative from each of the following departments and divisions: Parking Garage, Citizens Services, Public Information, Finance, Airport, Library, Public Works, Police, Capital Area Transit System, Human Resources, DHDS, Parish Attorney's Office and the Governors Office of Disability Affairs in an effort to provide maximum inclusion for people with disabilities in public service, transportation, public accommodations and telecommunication services.

MISSION

The mission of the City of Baton Rouge and Parish of East Baton Rouge ADA Task Force on Disabilities is to advise the Mayor-President and Metropolitan Council on city, state and federal policies that will benefit citizens with disabilities. The City-Parish ADA Task Force is concerned with issues of inclusion for all persons with disabilities.

PURPOSE

The purpose of the ADA Task Force is to fully integrate individuals with disabilities into all aspects of community life.

GUIDING PRINCIPLES

The ADA Task Force will be responsive to persons with
disabilities,

Aim to make the City of Baton Rouge, Parish of East Baton Rouge the showplace for compliance with the ADA,

Serve as a direct service committee,

Serve as a policy advisor to the Mayor and City Council, review
and react to government activities and encourage community
involvement in the city,

Promote pedestrian safety and access to all public streets,

Ensure that all public buildings and facilities, services, programs and activities are in compliance with ADA regulations,

Develop disability awareness and educational outreach programs,

Promote inclusion of the disabled community in the City's emergency and disaster preparedness plans,

Address unmet transit needs, and
