Assistant Mail Room Supervisor

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under close supervision of the Mail Room Supervisor, receives, distributes, and delivers mail to appropriate destinations. Prepares certified and registered mail with proper postage. Performs other work as requested.
 
ESSENTIAL WORK TASKS
Handles both incoming and outgoing mail. Places appropriate postage on all outgoing mail, including certified and registered mail; operates light technical equipment. Acts as supervisor in the absence of the Mailroom Supervisor. Performs clerical duties as required.
 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of principles, methods, equipment and techniques used in mailroom operations. Skill in the use of light technical office equipment. Skill in the operation of a light motor vehicle. Ability to follow oral direction. Ability to follow and work within the bounds of written guidelines. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, and the general public. Ability to apply good work habits such as punctuality, reliability, preciseness, and dependability in order to effectively complete assigned tasks and contribute to the smooth operation of the department and division.
 
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent certificate of competency, supplemented by one year experience in a mail room.
 
SUBSTITUTIONS
Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
 
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES
Must have a valid Louisiana driver's license at the time of appointment and maintain throughout employment in this classification.
