|Under the general direction of the Building Official, performs responsible supervisory and technical work involving the review of all residential and commercial construction plans and specifications submitted for permits for compliance with the City-Parish standard building codes, zoning ordinances and other related codes. Work involves responsibility for directing the work of subordinate employees, acts as a consultant, providing information to the construction industry and general public, and approving permits for issue. Work is performed with relative independence and is reviewed through personal conferences and for results obtained. Performs other work as requested.|
|ESSENTIAL WORK TASKS|
|Analyzes residential and commercial building plans and specifications and site plot plans.
Prepares complex documents, reports and studies; computes permit and plan review fees.
Trains and supervises the work of subordinate employees.
Conducts follow-up field inspections.
Approves drainage and parking layouts.
Consults with architects, engineers, plan designers, homeowners, and the general public, providing information about building codes, zoning ordinances and other related codes.
Approves building, occupancy, and house moving permits.
|KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES|
|Knowledge of City-Parish building codes, zoning ordinances and other related codes.
Knowledge of the work methods and procedures of the section.
Knowledge of all types of building construction and materials.
Ability to read and accurately interpret plans and specifications to determine their compliance with established standards.
Ability to effectively plan and direct the work of subordinate employees and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, members of the construction industry and the general public.|

|EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE|
|Bachelor's degree in construction technology, vocational or industrial education, engineering, architecture, business administration or a closely related field, and two years responsible experience in residential or commercial plan review or a related area.|
|Any equivalent combination of education and experience.|
|Certified as a Building Plan Examiner by the International Code Council (or equivalent organization) in residential (one examination for all disciplines), and commercial building code.
Must have a valid Louisiana driver's license at the time of appointment and maintain throughout employment in this classification.|
