Public Safety Radio System Coordinator

Emergency Medical Services
Under the general direction of the Telecommunications Chief of Operations or EBRP Communications District Manager, performs specialized technical work involving computers and radios used in the daily operation of the East Baton Rouge Parish Communications District on behalf of all public safety agencies operating within the Parish. Work involves responsibility for providing training and assistance to all users of such equipment, performing equipment repair and maintenance, licensing, and frequency coordination. Performs other work as requested.
Develops the internal programs used in each radio of the Trunked Radio System based on the needs and requests of individual agencies; maintains computer files on such programming. Performs all file maintenance for the Trunked Radio System. Coordinates frequencies through proper agencies and maintains current City-Parish licenses. Confers with manufacturers' representatives concerning maintenance of radios and tower sites; schedules all preventive maintenance checkups. Confers with manufacturers' representatives regarding equipment breakdowns; makes minor repairs or adjustments; schedules equipment repair service or provides programming assistance for more complex repairs. Provides training and assistance to all new and existing users of the radio systems on the proper use of new or existing equipment. Provides guidance and technical assistance to officials, representatives, and employees of other parishes, cities, and agencies who are considering and/or in the process of joining a radio network. Maintains a technical database designed to improve and simplify technical procedures based on the needs of the District. Keeps inventory of supplies; orders supplies as needed.
Knowledge of telephone systems and radio equipment used in public safety communications. Knowledge of radio equipment and dispatch techniques of all radio system users. Ability to manage the Parish radio system and relevant licensing. Ability to plan, organize, schedule, and monitor radio system projects and complex repairs. Ability to perform minor computer and radio equipment repairs including frequency coordination. Ability to program Parish radios and provide training and assistance to users. Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with others including radio system user agencies. Ability to apply good work habits such as punctuality, reliability, preciseness, and dependability in order to effectively complete assigned tasks and contribute to the smooth operation of the department and division.
High school diploma, GED, HiSET, or equivalent certificate of competency, and four years of progressively responsible experience in emergency communications.
Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
