Engineering Aide Trainee
Work Location:Various City-Parish Departments
Starting Salary:10.0284 Hourly / $20,859 Annual
Pay Grade:1080
EDUCATION NOTE : Applicants using education to qualify for any job MUST submit a copy of their degree or transcript at the time of application. Under the close supervision of a departmental supervisor, performs entry level, combining routine clerical and technical, sub-professional engineering work. Work may involve assisting with the work of a survey crew; maintaining accurate and current files and records of permits, house numbers, maps, and related materials. Work is assigned orally or in writing, and is reviewed daily through personal observation. Performs other work as requested.
May assist a survey crew; records data; files completed field notes; assists in locating property and lot lines; assists in locating permanent markers. Maintains records specific to area of assignment; researches files; responds to inquiries whether in person or by telephone. Delivers plans, specifications, deposits, receipts, and related materials; runs errands for area of assignment. Operates and maintains equipment necessary to task assigned.
Knowledge of algebra, plane geometry, or trigonometry. Skill in the operation of modern office equipment such as, the telephone, typewriter, calculator, copier, computer terminal and related peripherals. Skill in the safe operation of a light motor vehicle. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to physically perform the task assigned. Ability to deal with the public with tact and courtesy at all times. Ability to make engineering computations accurately. Ability to apply good work habits such as punctuality, reliability, preciseness, and dependability in order to effectively complete assigned tasks and contribute to the smooth operation of the department and division.
High school diploma, GED, HiSET, or equivalent certificate of competency, supplemented by courses in algebra, geometry or drafting.
Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must have a valid Louisiana driver's license at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment in this classification.

Engineering Aide Trainee exam required (may take up to 1 1/2 hours from test start time). Subject areas and other exam preparation information are available at Written examinations are available on most Tuesdays, 8:30 9:00 am, check-in, Thursdays, *12:00 - 12:30 pm, and Fridays, (for current openings only) 8:30 9:00 am check-in. Please call Human Resources Recruiting and Examination at 389-3132 to confirm testing dates and times. Test check-in is on a first come-first served basis. There are occasions where the test room is filled to capacity and applicants are asked to return on another day for testing. Picture identification, proof of social security number and a completed employment application are required for test room admittance. *Where written exam volume is expected to be high, check-in of applicants may begin as early as 11:30 am in order to complete the check-in process prior to the required 12:30 cut-off time.
