Councilman Byron SharperCouncilman Byron Sharper is currently serving his second term representing District 7. Mr. Sharper, a 37 year-old Democrat, received his B.S. Degree in Fine Arts from Southern University in 1990. He is married to his high school sweetheart, Lynette Jack Sharper and together they have three children, Byron Jr., Brandon and Bianca.

Councilman Sharper is very active in his community. From 1998-2000, he worked as a counselor with the Young Emerging Leaders of Louisiana. In 1994-1998, he worked as a Juvenile Officer with the East Baton Rouge Parish Department of Juvenile Service. In 1996, he worked as a Legislative Assistant to Senator Wilson Fields. He is a member of First Baptist Church of Richmond Park where he serves as a deacon, sings in the male chorus, and serves with the Youth Ministry; a member of Grand United Order of Odd Fellows (Knox Enterprise Lodge #9499); the PTA President of Dalton Elementary where he sits on the School Improvement Team; a member of Young Leaders Academy – Parents Support Network; a volunteer Head Coach and Activity Coordinator for the Golden Eagles Youth Sport Organization; Alumni President for Istrouma High School Alumni Association and a volunteer in public schools and the Head Start Program. Byron was re-elected for City Councilman District 7 for the years of 2005-2008.
