The Specialized Supervision Unit (SSU)
The Specialized Supervision Unit (SSU) is an intensive supervision
strategy developed to target the high-risk youths
that have violent offenses. These offenders may or may not have yet
to establish a pattern of violent criminal behavior, and are in need
of intensive supervision to block entrance into more violent crimes.
SSU is a nightly program staffed from 2:00 pm through 11:00 pm by
probation officers that specialize in intervention techniques. The
intensive supervision Programs Section uses these evening visits as
a pro-active step to prevent and deter criminal behavior as well as
monitor the probationer’s compliance to supervision conditions. SSU
is supervised by a Senior Probation Officer. The mission of SSU
compliments the various programs within the Department of Juvenile
Services section to deter identify, deter, and respond to criminal
behavior.
