BRATL – Kaleidoscope was established in 1997 out of the community concern for
homeless and runaway youth in the Greater Baton Rouge area. The program provides
a safe, stable living environment for homeless youth between the ages of 10-17.
The shelter is a newly renovated synagogue which includes semi-private rooms,
handicapped accessories, bathing facilities, and is complete with full laundry,
kitchen, dining and living room, computer lab, and activity center. Services
rendered by this shelter are 3 meals and 2 snacks daily, clothing, enrollment of
school-age clients within 3 days of arrival, after-school tutoring and an
opportunity to obtain a GED. Basic and/or necessary medical care is also
provided by the program. ESGP provides assistance with payment of counseling
services and basic operations expenses.
