children’s toys.
Which Plastics are Recyclable?
The Baton Rouge Recycling Program now takes all Plastic with a #1-#7 inside the triple arrow recycling symbol. Plastic recyclables, including beverage bottles, food containers, (rinse), detergent bottles, shampoo bottles,
prescription bottles, baby wipe containers, household cleaner and bleach bottles (empty and rinse), flower pots, buckets (5 gallon or less, remove any metal handles). Now, you can recycle almost all plastic bottles &

Don't Say Peanuts to Recycling Looking for places to recycle packing material such as Styrofoam peanuts and shredded paper? Industrial
Electronic Supply, Inc. located at 3575 South Choctaw Drive will take your Styrofoam peanuts. They reuse them for packing material. Call 357-4249, first.
Also, try your local Mail Boxes Et., Quantum Express and other mailing operations. Many will take these objects off your hands and keep them out of the trash. Styrofoam peanuts also make excellent drainage material for potted
plants. Do Not Recycle Plastic bags, hangers, toys, 6-pack rings, chemical containers, packing materials and plastic
wrap.
What Should be Done about
Non-Recyclable Plastic?
Do not purchase products in
non-recyclable plastic containers if at all possible. Please look for
alternative packages that come in recyclable containers. You should
call or write the manufacturers of products in non-recyclable containers and
ask them to switch to packaging that can be recycled in our program.

technology now available. From newsprint to copier paper to cardboard to paper bags,
recycled paper products pop up in numerous applications. Look for and purchase recycled paper products when shopping for the home or office.
Handling the News
Don't be afraid to recycle paper. Paper with tape and staples, junk mail, and
envelopes with plastic windows are all okay. You can even recycle old cardboard and
paperboard, including laundry detergent and cereal boxes. Cardboard must be folded, flattened and placed beside your recycling cart.

the flow of junk mail to your mailbox by requesting that your name be
removed from the Direct Marketing Association’s mailing list.
